s501: trouble with the law? How prior convictions and Character issues impact on visa applications.

Heavy weight boxer Mike Tyson was in April of 2001 refused a visa to Australia. The immigration minister of the time Philip Ruddock wrote to Prime minister John Howard  stating that Tyson had failed the character test under the Migration Act 1958 due to his criminal record.  (Tyson had been convicted of raping an 18-year-old woman in 1992 and was sentenced to six years in prison, but was granted an early release in 1995). Although this was somewhat of a cause célèbre cancellation and refusal of visas due to character issues happens all the time. AR LAW SERVICES: Master Migration Lawyers has for over 20 years help clients who find their visas cancelled or refused due to their checkered past.
